Reminder Notice re Aqua Gym

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Aqua Gym lessons have been arranged for all children in Teams 3 & 4. The dates for these lessons are from Monday 7 November- Friday 18 November 2010. 

Lessons are of 30 minutes duration and the swimming sessions build on the child’s existing skill level, and develop confidence in the water. 

All students will travel to and from the venue by bus. You are invited to meet your child at the swimming pool but there will not be any spaces available on the buses. Some of the more junior classes would appreciate some parental assistance each day to help with changing. If you are able to help on a roster please see your child’s class teacher. 

The Board of Trustees currently pays the entire cost of transport to and from the venue. The cost of the 9 lessons is $46.80.  This will be invoiced on the Term 4 accounts but please note that this payment must be received by the school office before swimming starts.

Children will need swimming togs, a towel and a waterproof bag to contain clothing. 

Classes will attend at different times. Please see the timetable below. 

Please note that the first group each day – Rooms 10/13/14/18 will leave from Redcliffs School, Main Road, Redcliffs at 9am each day.  Please ensure your child is at the bus stop by 8.50am.  Class teachers will meet children there from 8.40am.

Before we begin Aqua Gym lessons we would appreciate some information regarding your child’s/ children’s swimming ability. We will use this information to guide us on the appropriate swimming group for your child.  If you have not yet completed and returned the information form sent home last term please do so this week.  Please tick the appropriate box. If your child currently undertakes private swimming lessons please record their actual group name/ level below.  Please return this form and the permission slip to the class teacher.

Dear Parents/ Caregivers

Welcome to Term 4.  We hope you managed a well earned break, and that students are ready for another busy term.  This term will fly as there are only 8 weeks, and a wide range of experiences have been organized for students during the term.  Activities include Athletics Day, swimming lessons at Aqua Gym, a Beach Education day at Waimairi Beach and an end of year fun day outing.  Please check the calendar of events at the end of this newsletter.

Thank you

Thank you to all those parents who came to support our Cultural Day and Poetry Recital events last term.  The children really appreciated having an audience to demonstrate their new knowledge and skills to.  Being able to hold team events has helped to provide a sense of normality for children and staff alike.

Curriculum Coverage

The focus on literacy and numeracy continues this term to ensure that we have covered as much of the curriculum as possible for the year.  In writing teachers will cover narratives and recounts.  In maths a focus on the development of numeracy strategies and knowledge will continue.  Run, Jump and Throw, athletics, swimming, Beach Education and Sun Sense will provide new learning in physical education and health.  In the arts playing an instrument, construction, designing a calendar page and Christmas activities will complete a very busy term.

Sunhats

Sunhats must be worn every day from the beginning of Term 4.  UV rays are extremely strong and damaging here in New Zealand, and care should always be taken to cover up when outside the classroom.

Calendars

Team 4 children are completing art work this week, for individual calendars and/ or cards which will be available for purchase.  These make excellent Christmas presents and will sell for $12.  You will be able to view the artwork from early next week in your child’s classroom.  A notice and form will be issued so that you can place an order.  All money raised will be added to the school fundraising total for 2011.

Athletics Day

All children will participate in the school athletics day on Wednesday 2 November at school.  Please ensure that your child has had sun screen applied, and is wearing suitable footwear for participating in a wide range of activities on this day.  Parents are more than welcome to attend during the day. 

Aqua Gym

All students in Teams 3 & 4 will attend daily lessons at Aqua Gym from Monday 7 November - Friday 18 November.  Notices regarding this were sent out at the end of term 3. A reminder notice is out this week.  Please read carefully as Rooms 13/14 & 18 will leave each morning from outside Redcliffs School, Main Road.  All children will travel to and from by bus.  Parents are welcome to attend lessons at the pool but will need to travel by car as seating on the bus is limited to children and staff.  The cost of $46.80 has been invoiced on this terms statement and must be paid before lessons start.

Beach Education Day

On November 29 all children in Team 4 will travel by bus to Waimairi Beach for an educational day on and around the beach and surf.  Trained life guards will take the children through a programme designed to educate children on the dangers of the beach environment and also some of the skills and knowledge needed to have enjoyable times at the beach.  This will be especially important as we head into the summer holidays.

End of Year Picnic

On Wednesday 7 December we will hold a picnic for all Team 4 students at Scarborough Park.  Further information will come home later in the term.

Team 4 Redcliffs @ Sumner

Hi Everyone

It's so great to see team 4 children settling into their new spaces at Sumner School. Students look so focussed and ready for learning. Teachers have been working very hard to provide a caring and supportive learning environment for children. We are pleased with the number of children taking the option to travel to school by bus each day.

Thank you for the overwhelming messages of support we have recieved from parents and other school communities especially Sumner School.
